Conscious Closet Series: I’m trying organic cotton underwear so you don’t have to.
Yes, I know. This one isn’t cotton, but stick with me.
When I started removing synthetic underwear from my closet last year, I saw one brand that kept bubbling to the top of my search results: Huha mineral underwear.
As someone who lives a fairly active life (except in the winter), I was curious how it compared to organic cotton underwear as well as synthetic brands on busy days.
I checked their reviews and women kept saying:
- “I am impressed with Huha’s. The quality is incredible.”
- “I love the fabric and the gusset that goes all the way through the underwear.”
- “These reduce odor significantly”
- “I hate HATE(!!!) wearing thongs. I find they often don’t cover enough of your feminine area, and they dig up your butt. Not with these!”
So I ordered the Mineral Undies Thong and put it through my standard 100-point wear test: full workdays, sweat sessions, errands in leggings, and multiple washes.
Here’s the honest breakdown.
Table of Contents:
Why I Tested Huha

Most sustainable underwear brands focus on:
- Organic certifications
- Ethical factories
- Plastic-free packaging
All are important, but Huha focuses on something different: Vulvar skin health.
That matters substantially if you:
- Sweat easily
- Workout frequently
- Spend long days in leggings
- Experience irritation or recurring discomfort
- Hate narrow, decorative gussets
Instead of organic cotton, Huha uses plant-based TENCEL™ paired with a zinc oxide–infused gusset designed specifically for moisture management and soothing support.
It’s a performance-first approach to underwear and I was curious if it would outperform cotton.
Fabric Breakdown: What It’s Actually Made Of
- 90% TENCEL™ (plant-based cellulose fiber)
- Zinc oxide–infused gusset
- Stretch blend for recovery
Let’s unpack that in plain language.
What Is TENCEL™?
TENCEL™ is a branded form of lyocell made from plant cellulose (often eucalyptus). It’s:
- Breathable
- Moisture-wicking
- Smooth at the fiber level
- Cooler to the touch than cotton
The fabric is buttery soft. Immediately noticeable. Not “soft for sustainable underwear.” Just soft. On my first day of testing, I wore them on a 3-ish mile walk with my dog. Halfway through the walk, I realized that I hadn’t noticed the Huha mineral thong at all.
It is hands down the only thong I’ve ever worn that I genuinely forgot I was wearing. No random pinching or pulling or adjusting.
That alone is impressive and had me thanking the lucky stars that this thong exists.
Why the Zinc Oxide Gusset Matters
The gusset is infused with zinc oxide — yes, the same ingredient widely used in sensitive skincare.

According to dermatological research, zinc oxide is considered one of the gentlest skincare ingredients and is even approved for use for babies with extra delicate skin.
It’s commonly used to:
- Soothe irritation
- Support skin barrier function
- Calm redness
- Reduce moisture-related friction
Instead of just being “double layered cotton,” this gusset is intentionally designed for high-friction, high-moisture areas.
That’s a major difference!
And don’t get me wrong, organic cotton is still ideal because of it’s breathability. But it’s not always the best choice for all day performance.
The Gusset: Let’s Talk Measurements
This is where Huha separates itself from the pack as if an Olympian sprinter was racing a high school track star.
Measured flat:
- Length: 13.5 inches
- Narrowest width: 1.5 inches
- Fully sewn-in
- Double-layered
- Extends full length of the underwear
This is the longest gusset I’ve measured in the entire series so far.
Not a tiny strip.
Not decorative.
Not shifting.
It runs the entire length of the underwear — front to back — which means:
- Better coverage
- Better moisture control
- Less friction
- No awkward “why is this so short?” moments
If you care about functional design in a thong, this is elite. This is also revolutionary for anyone who experiences sensory overload with traditional gussets.
Gusset Score: 25/25
All-Day Wear Test Results
I tested this thong during:
- A full workday (desk + movement)
- A 20-minute mat pilates workout session
- Errands in fitted leggings
- A 3-mile walk outdoors
Comfort
I now clearly understand why there are an overwhelming number of positive Huha mineral underwear reviews!
Zero digging.
Zero adjusting.
Zero riding.
The waistband doesn’t compress or leave red marks. It lays flat and stays put. I only experienced very minor shifting at the top of the waistband one time throughout the entire day. It wasn’t noticeable and the shift was because I moved it, not because it moved on its own.
After a long walk with my dog, I wasn’t itching to take it off. I was genuinely excited to wear it for the rest of the day.
For anyone that doesn’t prefer a thong over a brief, the Huha mineral underwear thong might make you change your mind.
Waistband Score: 15/15
Breathability & Odor
- End-of-day odor: Neutral
- Post-workout: Slight warmth, no damp heaviness
- Moisture feel: Dry
The TENCEL™ + zinc oxide combo performs noticeably better than most cotton thongs I’ve tested during sweat-heavy days.
If you’re an active girlie who spends long days in the sun, hiking, traveling, or camping — this is where these shine.
I will absolutely be packing these on every camping trip from here on out!
Breathability Score: 19/20
Wash & Durability Test
I put this thong through two different wash tests. First wash was a regular wash with a hang dry. The second wash, I also ran it through a 30-minute dry cycle. I don’t use fabric softener but I did use warm water.
Results:
- No shrinkage
- No twisting
- No gusset warping
- Waistband elasticity fully intact
- Still buttery soft
The fabric maintains structure without stiffening. For longevity purposes, I recommend hang or line drying it but it’s not going to fall apart in your dryer.
While it doesn’t have organic cotton certifications (because it isn’t cotton), performance-wise it holds up extremely well.
Fabric Quality Score: 15/20
Point deduction strictly for lack of fabric certification transparency, not performance.
Sizing & Fit
Huha runs true to size! Hallelujah! It’s one of the better fitting thongs I’ve ever worn.
The waistband:
- Does not dig
- Does not roll
- Does not compress
- Holds gently without squeezing
Sizing range: 2XS–3XL
One thing I deeply appreciate? They didn’t design for aesthetics first. They designed for real women’s bodies.
Materials that work with our bodies instead of against them — in a synthetic-heavy world — feels refreshing.
How It Compares to Organic Cotton Thongs
| Category | Huha | Organic Cotton Average |
| Gusset Length | Excellent | Moderate |
| Sweat Management | Excellent | Good |
| Skin Soothing | Strong | Moderate |
| Certification | Moderate | Strong |
| Price | $24 | $18–$28 |
Cotton wins in certifications and sustainability.
Huha wins in functional performance and gusset design.
If you’re strictly an organic cotton purist, this won’t replace that.
If you prioritize comfort, moisture control, and real coverage? This might outperform cotton entirely.

FAQ — Huha Mineral Underwear Review
Is Huha mineral underwear worth it?
Based on a 92/100 wear test score, yes — if you value performance, breathability, and gusset design over organic certification labels. The Huha mineral undie thong falls into my HOLY GRAIL category for this particular review series.
Is Huha good for sensitive skin?
The zinc oxide–infused gusset and smooth TENCEL™ fabric performed exceptionally well during sweat testing with zero irritation. To take this review one step further, I wore this thong the day after shaving. I have Irish skin that hates just about everything.
I didn’t chafe. I didn’t get ingrown hairs. I didn’t get pulled out of the moment because I needed to readjust my underwear. The fabric and seams are great for sensitive skin. The zinc-oxide infused gusset is a cherry on top and a major win for womens vulvar health.
Does Huha underwear shrink?
No noticeable shrinkage after cold wash and air dry. I also tested a full wash with a 30-minute dry cycle in the dryer. The waistband and leg seams fit the same after line dry and dry cycle. The fabric also came out soft but I recommend air drying for longevity purposes.
Is the gusset actually longer than other brands?
Yes!! At 13.5 inches long, it is the longest thong gusset I’ve measured in this series! It is sewn into the front waistband all the way until it hits the back waistband. This alone eliminates sensory issues that we’re accustomed too with flimsy gussets.
Its quality construction feels intentional and solves a routine issue that many of us struggle with.
Does it show under leggings?
Start the applause! This thong had minimal to invisible panty lines under standard workout leggings. It’s as close as you can get to a traditional, synthetic seamless style underwear.
It lays flat against the body, the fabric doesn’t cause any hot spots or chafing, and the gusset width offers protection where we need it most. It’s truly a win-win-win.
Is it breathable in hot weather?
Yes. Moisture control and odor performance were excellent during active testing. I wore this thong on a 3-ish mile walk as well as a 20 minute pilates workout on top of a full day of wear.
For any odor to be recognizable, you have to get uncomfortably close to the underwear itself. That means all day protection even on your sweatiest adventures.

It’s thoughtfully constructed.
It’s body-aware.
It performs under sweat.
It doesn’t dig.
It doesn’t shift.
Well done, Huha.
